01
Samira
West Bengal
Her Dream
“I want to care for others — to give comfort to those in pain, the way I wished someone had been there for me.”
Sold, trafficked, and exploited — Samira walked out of a rescue and straight into her education.
Samira was rescued in September 2020 from a hotel in West Bengal, where she had been sold and sexually exploited. Sixteen accused are named in her case. Her mother, the family’s sole provider, has been unable to work due to elderly parents needing care at home.
Despite missing months of school after her rescue, Samira sat her Class 12 board exams — and scored 62%.
Samira applied for GNM in Bihar and cleared the entrance test in 2024. She is now in her final year of GNM and doing well. She said “for the first time in my life I feel respected.” She needs support for her final year of nursing and will graduate next year to serve others in need.

02
Maya
BIHAR
Her Dream
“I want to become a nurse — to protect and support my younger sisters, and all those who suffer like I did.”
Locked away, starved, and told she had no future — Maya proved every one of them wrong.
In 2023 Maya and her two sisters had been imprisoned for 5 days by their father and step mother — giving them almost no food and water. Neighbors secretly passed scraps of food through gaps to keep the girls alive. A brave relative broke the lock on the room where they had been held and with the help of our partner organization in Bihar secured their freedom and a safe shelter.
Through tears, the sisters said that if no action was taken, they would rather die than continue living this way.
Our partner provided the girls monthly rations and enrolled Maya in education. Despite balancing school with part-time work at a local mall and heavy household duties, Maya passed her Class 12 Bihar State Board exam with first division marks. She cleared her nursing entrance in 2025 and is completing her 1st year of GNM in Karnataka. She needs support for her 2nd year fees.
Seeing her progress and confidence her little sister completed her grade 12 with good marks and is also applying for Nursing. Maya is a role model for her her own little sisters
